The term “Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)” refers to all therapeutic actions related to nutritional treatment. This includes oral nutritional supplements, enteral nutrition (tube feeding), and parenteral nutrition, collectively known as MNT.
Historically, the latter two were referred to as “forced nutrition,” but both ESPEN and ASPEN have proposed replacing this term with “Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)” (Reference: T. Cederholm et al. / Clinical Nutrition 36 (2017) 49-64).
Role and Mission of JSPEN:
At the Japanese Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (JSPEN), we aim to promote and enhance the correct understanding of nutritional therapy based on this new definition. We expect our members to apply this knowledge in their clinical practice to provide the best possible nutritional support for each patient.
Nutritional therapy is a vital treatment not only for managing malnutrition but also for improving the quality of life of patients. We are dedicated to advancing these therapies through continuous education and research.
